Hello! I'm Caio Ribeiro, a full scholarship holder at Insper. I currently in the eighth semester (4th year) and a future computer engineer. I'm from São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo, and I've always been interested in the field of science and technology.
Most recently, I was accepted into an exchange program at Excelia (La Rochelle Business School)in La Rochelle, on the southwest coast of France. In this exchange program, I will focus on business subjects such as Marketing and Finance, in order to complement my professional training and improve my interpersonal skills by being in contact with a different culture and people from all over the world.
Childhood: Telling you a little more about my background, I was born and raised in São José dos Campos. An interesting fact about me is that all my grandparents came to this city as adults, from places in the inland of Minas Gerais, or from the northern coast of São Paulo. As a child, I loved playing with my school friends and cousin at family gatherings. I studied at the Profª Sonia Mara Ramos preschool, affectionately nicknamed "Presinho".
Elementary school: I began my studies straight from the second grade of elementary school, at the Escola Municipal Profª Maria dos Santos Ronconi. The time I spent there was very memorable, as I was able to develop a very meaningful friendship with people from the deaf community, opening my eyes to the importance of diversity and developing skills such as communicating using LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language). Halfway through the fourth year, I started studying at the Escola Municipal Profª Áurea Cantinho Rodrigues, where I stayed until I graduated.
From an early age, I was taught the value of studying and the opportunities that a good academic education would bring me in the future. I remember exactly one situation in which a science teacher, in the sixth grade, introduced me to ISMART, a social institution that would change my life from then on.
Years at Colégio Poliedro as an ISMART scholarship holder:
In the eighth grade, I was accepted into ISMART - Instituto Social para Motivar Apoiar e
Reconhecimentor Talentos (Social Institute to Motivate, Support and Recognize Talents), due to my excellent performance in public school. Initially, I was part of the online version of the institute, where I developed some projects that earned me approval for the Alicerce Project, through which I won a scholarship to an excellent private school, Colégio Poliedro, in the São José dos Campos unit.
Until the end of the ninth grade of elementary school, I worked double shifts, studying in the public school in the morning and in the private school in the afternoon. It was a time when I learned to better develop my personal organization and adaptability to different environments. Furthermore, it was in elementary school that my interest in science olympiads emerged, at which time I would win my first medal at the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools) and others that followed.
In high school, still with a full scholarship from ISMART, it was a period in which I was able to establish my interests in the area that I would like to study in my undergraduate degree. At Colégio Poliedro, I continued to strive to achieve good performances in mathematics, physics, robotics and even olympiads in different areas of knowledge, such as history and linguistics. Due to my good performance in tests and mock exams, I was part of the then existing Class A, which grouped the students with the highest grades in each year. I also participated in major internal events at the school, such as PoliONU, which gave me valuable experience in debates and argumentation. Furthermore, during this period, ISMART played a crucial role in my education by acting as a bridge for me to learn more about the job market through contact with professionals from a wide range of backgrounds and also with students who were already in their undergraduate studies.
Journey at Insper: My journey at Insper began in a moment of relief, after all, studying the third year of high school during the coronavirus pandemic had been very challenging. With the fundamental support of the Scholarship Program, which granted me a full scholarship at the institution, in addition to the presence of the community of scholarship students at the college, I was able to gradually adapt to the new pace of life, now in São Paulo.
At Insper,
I entered as a mechanical engineering student, and especially at the beginning of the course,
it was a time when I was able to learn and delve deeply into subjects more focused on calculus, mathematics and physics, during the period of the common curriculum for engineering courses, which are subjects that I had already shown great interest in since high school. However, it was in the area of programming that I identified most. Because of this, I had the chance to change my major to computer engineering, and it was a choice I am very proud of having made.
Over the past 4 years, I have been able to work in different positions. In the sixth semester, I was a mentor for a subject that combines the study of physics, calculus and programming together, and I helped students to better understand the concepts and solve exercises. In addition, I was a volunteer programming teacher, giving classes to support underprivileged communities in São Paulo. I also participated in integrative activities by presenting the Insper campus to high school students to provide detailed information about the institution's infrastructure. During the vacation periods, I had the opportunity to participate in different internships. Two of them, which took place in the same year, were the experiences that caught my attention the most. I was able to see the scope that working in IT represents by being present with a robust structure in both a law firm and a well-known bank, for example. Finally, I am currently working on the final engineering project for my course,
traditionally known as TCC (Course Completion Project), in a group and in
partnership with a company in the agribusiness sector.
Exchange in La Rochelle: using again the words that I used and that earned me approval for one of the two available places at the institution that I chose in this exchange program, being part of an activity like this and studying in another country, for the child that I once was, represented the greatest academic achievement that a person could achieve. Today, my dream of being part of a program like this remains vivid and closer than ever.
Currently part of the Excelia group, La Rochelle Business School will be an environment that will make a fundamental contribution to my career, by allowing me to study exclusively in business disciplines, such as administration, marketing and finance, areas of knowledge that will be essential for the engineer I intend to become. Classes will be in English, and the daily routine in a new culture will help me further improve my interpersonal skills, in addition to the fact that I will be able to learn more French.
Excelia Business School stands out internationally for having the triple crown of accreditations (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA), a distinction achieved by less than
1% of business schools around the world. Its programs, especially the Master in Management (Grande École), are featured in prestigious rankings, such as Financial Times and The Economist. You can check out more at this link.
If you have read this far, know that I am extremely grateful for having taken the time to get to know myself better. I would especially like to thank my family, friends and institutions who have been present on this journey. I cannot forget to first thank God for having filled my life with good things and good learning.
